IIRC I’m duplicating objects almost every few minutes when heavily editing scenes and I really enjoy editing them, but there’s one thing which really bothers me – every time I duplicate an object, Unity increments their names which looks absolutely fugly:

Instead bothering about this issue I just went ahead and developed a small editor scripts which groups duplicates into one single parent:

And it works like a charm. Grab the script over at Gist and feel free to use it in your projects:
